After the 2008 crash of the stock market, the real estate market was hit hard by investors and those who were house flippers lost their money. Tarek El Moussa nearly wiped out by the 2008 crash. Their house was valued at $700 a week, compared to the $16,000 they had to pay per month for their home. They gradually rebuilt their business as well as their economy. HGTV as well as Rise to Fame Tarek enlisted an accomplice to assist in the making of an HGTV video audition in 2011. The video included Tarek flipping the entire house with Christina. Pie Town Productions, a production company in New York City, received the audition tape. The company's executives immediately fell in love with Tarek's and Christina's love story. The couple signed a deal with HGTV. The series "Flip of Flop" began its run on April 13th, 2013. From 2013 until 2017, the series aired over 92 episodes in seven seasons. The show was a story of Christina and Tarek buying properties located in Orange County. They would work for weeks on restoring the properties in order to make their properties at a profits.
